Midland Power Utility Corporation (Midland PUC) is an electricity distributor or local distribution company (LDC), now owned and operated by Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NTPDL). From 1908 to 2000 we operated as a public corporation and were known as the Midland Public Utilities Commission. In 2000 we were incorporated under the Ontario Business Corporation’s Act and are owned by the Corporation of the Town of Midland. On September 7, 2018, Midland notified the OEB that the share purchase transaction between the Corporation of the Town of Midland and Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. closed on September 7, 2018.

Midland PUC receives high voltage power (44,000 volts) from transmission lines in Waubaushene and step-down the electricity to a usable low-voltage level for local homes, businesses, institutions and industry.
Our other responsibilities include connecting renewable generation, delivering effective conservation and demand management programs, installing smart meters and implementing time-of-use pricing and investing in grid modernization initiatives.
